Laguz is the name of the rune for water, such as lake, sea, ocean. It flows, contains fish, and is unpredictable.
Laguz is the name of this Elder Futhark rune referring to water, with all its body shapes. From pond, lake, and river and on to the sea, it is sometimes clear, sometimes murky, often turbulent, and always powerful and rich with life.
The Norwegian rune poem for Laguz in Old Norse is one of the mnemonic devices created to teach the runes, using words that repeat the L sound while attaching cultural meaning:
Lögr er fællr ór fjalle foss;
en gull ero nosser.
A waterfall is a river which falls from a mountain-side;
but ornaments are of gold.
The phrase well-landed refers to the actual body of water surrounded by its earth boundaries.
