An invented writing system with a great purpose.

It’s about Braille. About 8 years ago I designed a business card for Alice Sheppard, a charismatic choreographer who works with disabled dancers. The requirement was that one set of cards should be in Braille. Who would do the embossing? Will the Braille font work? There were so many questions and I had to find a way to get them printed correctly, which I eventually did through San Francisco’s Lighthouse for the Blind. The Braille embossing process turned out to be more complex than I thought. The popular Braille font does not guarantee a proper embossing clearance and can’t be done by a standard printing service. If you assume you can do this in the normal course of graphic design work, have another think before you issue a cost estimate!
